In bombardment of {sup 244}Pu with {sup 48}Ca , we observed a decay sequence consisting of an implanted heavy atom, three subsequent {alpha} decays, and a spontaneous fission (SF), all correlated in time and position. The measured {alpha} energies and corresponding time intervals were E{sub {alpha}}=9.71 thinspthinspMeV ({Delta}t=30.4 thinspthinsps), 8.67thinspthinspMeV ({Delta}t=15.4 thinspthinspmin), and 8.83thinspthinspMeV ({Delta}t=1.6 thinspthinspmin); for the SF ({Delta}t=16.5… Expand

Sub-barrier fusion of deformed nuclei in 60 Ni+ 154 Sm and 32 S+ 182 W reactions
• Physics
• 2000
We have investigated the sub-barrier fusion between spherical projectiles and well-deformed targets in ${}^{60}\mathrm{Ni}{+}^{154}\mathrm{Sm}$ and ${}^{32}\mathrm{S}{+}^{182}\mathrm{W}$ reactions,Expand
Measurements of cross sections for the fusion-evaporation reactions 244 Pu ( 48 Ca ,xn ) 292-x 114 and 245 Cm ( 48 Ca ,xn ) 293-x 116
We have studied the excitation functions of the reactions $^{244}\mathrm{Pu}$($^{48}\mathrm{Ca}$,$xn$). Maximum cross sections for the evaporation of 3--5 neutrons in the complete-fusion reactionExpand

The structure of superheavy elements newly discovered in the reaction of $^{86}$Kr with $^{208}$Pb
• Physics
• 1999
The structure of superheavy elements newly discovered in the $^{208}$Pb($^{86}$Kr,n) reaction at Berkeley is systematically studied in the Relativistic Mean Field (RMF) approach. It is shown thatExpand
The synthesis and properties of superheavy nuclei produced in the 48 Ca+ 244 Pu, 248 Cm reactions
We present the results of the experiments aimed at producing hypothetical long-lived superheavy elements located near the spherical shell closures with Z>-114 and N>-172. For the synthesis ofExpand
Possibility of synthesizing a doubly magic superheavy nucleus
The possibility of synthesizing a doubly magic superheavy nucleus, ${}^{298}{114}_{184}$, is investigated on the basis of fluctuation-dissipation dynamics. In order to synthesize this nucleus, weExpand
