Abstract Isotopes of transactinide elements have to be synthesized in nuclear reactions with light or heavy beam particles. The efficient production by neutron capture and subsequent β− decay as it is used for the production of isotopes of actinide elements up to fermium is no longer possible due to the lack of suitable target material. The content of this article is about the synthesis and the study of the decay properties of nuclei to which atomic, respectively proton numbers from Z = 104 to…

α -decay properties of even-even superheavy nuclei
In this paper, we have calculated the $\ensuremath{\alpha}$-decay half-lives of superheavy nuclei with $106\ensuremath{\le}Z\ensuremath{\le}126$ and a neutron number of

Synthesis of nuclei of the superheavy element 114 in reactions induced by 48Ca
The stability of heavy nuclides, which tend to decay by α-emission and spontaneous fission, is determined by the structural properties of nuclear matter. Nuclear binding energies and lifetimes
Synthesis of superheavy nuclei: A search for new production reactions
Nuclear reactions leading to the formation of new superheavy (SH) elements and isotopes are discussed in the paper. 'Cold' and 'hot' synthesis, fusion of fission fragments, transfer reactions, and
New elements - approaching
The search for new elements is part of the broader field of investigations of nuclei at the limits of stability. In two series of experiments at SHIP, six new elements were synthesized via fusion
Synthesis of transactinide nuclei using radioactive beams
The prospects for the synthesis of transactinide nuclei using radioactive beams are evaluated quantitatively for a modern radioactive beam facility. A simple formalism for calculating the complete
Review of even element super-heavy nuclei and search for element 120
Abstract. The reaction 54Cr$ + $248Cm was investigated at the velocity filter SHIP at GSI, Darmstadt, with the intention to study production and decay properties of isotopes of element 120. Three
Direct mass measurements above uranium bridge the gap to the island of stability
Direct mass measurements of trans-uranium nuclides, located at the farthest tip of the actinide species on the proton number–neutron number diagram, represent the gateway to the predicted island of stability and advance direct mass measurements by ten atomic numbers with no loss in accuracy.
Nuclear isomers in superheavy elements as stepping stones towards the island of stability
A study of the nobelium isotope 254No, with 102 protons and 152 neutrons, finds three excited structures, two of which are isomeric (metastable) and one of these structures is firmly assigned to a two-proton excitation, which provide a microscopic benchmark for nuclear models of the superheavy elements.
Formation of superheavy elements in cold fusion reactions
We calculate the formation cross sections of transactinides (superheavy elements), as well as heavy actinides (No and Lr), which have been or might be obtained in fusion reactions with the
REVIEW ARTICLE: Recent advances in the discovery of transuranium elements
The heaviest known elements at present, the transactinides, ranging from element 104 to element 109, are the subject of this paper. It will start with a brief historical review on their
