Synthesis and neuro-psychotropic activity of adamantylimidazo[1,2-a]benzimidazoles

Abstract

Aminomethylated heterocycles are known to possess diverse biological activity [4, 5]~ Imidazo[l,2-a]benzimidazoles are known which display biological activity, including psychotropic activity [6]. However, these compounds possess neurotropic activity of a depressant type, which may restrict their application, for instance as adaptogenic drugs, which require a certain amount of psychostimulant activity. One possible route to the discovery of novel compounds of this type containing the elements of psychostimulant activity is by introducing into the heterocyclic molecule pharmacophoric groups which are responsible for the display of central stimulant effects. It is, for example, known that aminoadamantanes (such as midantane) possess psychostimulant activity which is achieved by activation of the central dopaminergic systems [12].
