Abstract Stable water dispersed iron oxide nanoparticles, double-coated by a first layer of oleic acid followed by a second layer of the reactive surfactant dodec-1-ene-1-sodium sulfonate (Rhodacal®A-246L) were synthesized. Dynamic light scattering (DLS) analysis revealed an average particles size and polydispersity of 48 nm and 0.2, respectively. The particles size and zeta potential were dependent on the pH.
