The compound 2,2′-(2-amino-phenoxy)-ether [L] was synthesized from the reaction of diethylene glycol with tosyl chloride. AgClO4 and ZnCl2 each react with L to give two complexes [Ag2L2(H2O)(ClO4)2] (1) and [ZnLCl2]n (2) respectively, and characterized by FTIR and single crystal X-ray diffraction.
