Radio astronomy is the observation of celestial bodies by measuring their emission of radio waves. Because of the much larger wavelength than visible light, and as a consequence of the very low power of celestial sources, this observation is based on the use of large antennas (paraboloids of tens of meters in diameter) combined to form an array (sometimes several hundred miles of aperture).
