Abstract Two novel complexes, Na 3 Y(pydc) 3 ·12H 2 O ( 1 ) and Y 2 (pydc)(OH) 4 ·3H 2 O ( 2 ) (pydc = 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylate), were synthesized by yttrium (III) nitrate and pydcH 2 with different molar ratios. The elemental analysis, IR spectra and single crystal X-ray diffraction were used to determine the structure of complexes. The thermal decompositions and antimicrobial activities against Bacillus coli and Staphylococcus aureus were recorded and interpreted for both.
