Diallyl disulfide was synthesized by phase transfer catalyst (PTC) during microwave irradiation. The effects of different factors, such as the power of microwave irradiation, the time of microwave irradiation, PTC reagents amount and the mole ratio of reactants, on the yield of product were investigated. The structure of diallyl disulfide was characterized by infrared spectra, mass spectra and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance. The bioactivity of diallyl disulfide was evaluated by cell viability…

Design, Synthesis and Anti‐Cancer Activities of Benzyl Analogues of Garlic‐Derived Diallyl Disulfide (DADS) and the Corresponding Diselenides

It is indicated that the anti-proliferative activity of DADS can be significantly enhanced upon suitable structural modifications.

Development of a Silicone-Based Polymer Matrix as a Suitable Transdermal Therapeutic System for Diallyl Disulfide

There is an unmet need for novel therapeutic tools relieving chronic pain. Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is highly involved in pain processes; however, the development of ideal matrices for sulfide donor

Isolation of novel bacteria within the Chloroflexi capable of reductive dechlorination of 1,2,3-trichloropropane.

Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequence data showed these isolates to represent a new lineage within the Chloroflexi, the first isolates reported to reductively dehalogenate 1,2,3-trichloropropane.

Diallyl disulfide induces apoptosis of human colon tumor cells.

The widespread effectiveness of DADS was evident by its ability to inhibit the growth of human colon, skin (SK MEL-2) and lung (A549) tumor cell lines.

Growth inhibitory effects of diallyl disulfide on human breast cancer cell lines.

DADS could be a promising anticancer agent for both hormone-dependent and -independent breast cancers, and may harmonize with polyunsaturated fatty acids known as modulators of breast cancer cell growth.

Effects of allyl sulfur compounds and garlic extract on the expression of Bcl-2, Bax, and p53 in non small cell lung cancer cell lines

DADS was found to be more effective in inducing apoptosis on NSCLC and modulation of apoptosis-associated cellular proteins by DAS, DADS and garlic extract may be the mechanism for apoptosis which merit further investigation as potential chemoprevention agents.

Therapeutic actions of garlic constituents

The epidemiological, clinical, and laboratory data have proved that garlic contains many biologically and pharmacologically important compounds, which are beneficial to human health from cardiovascular, neoplastic, and several other diseases.
