BACKGROUND: As a result of rural exodus, aging of rural population, development of high-yield rice varieties and so on, abandoned paddy fields of South Korea have generally increased. The phytosociological studies are needed to recommend the effective vegetation management methods of abandoned paddy fields. The current study performed an analysis of vegetation characteristics by classifying plant communities for abandoned paddy fields in South Korea. METHODS AND RESULTS: A comparative analysis…

Study on Ecological Restoration of Endangered Species in Abandoned Paddy of Korea and Management Plan for its Habitat
As part of method for ecologically utilizing abandoned paddy, potential of the abandoned paddy as a target site for ex-situ conservation of 9 endangered species of different life form was confirmed
Changes in vegetation and flora of abandoned paddy terraces in responses to drawdown
The attention for further studies on the abandoned paddy terraces (APTs) and effort for the management and conservation of APTs and APT-inhabiting species that are vulnerable to human-induced disturbances have to be paid more.

Vegetation Types and Soil Environment as Affected by Fallow Paddy
ABSTRACT The phytosociological study was carried out to investigate the structural characteristics of fallow paddy vegetation in Korea. The vegetation data of total 22 releves were analyzed by the
Seral Changes in Floristic Composition during Abandoned Field Succession after Shifting Cultivation
Seral changes in floristic composition during abandoned field succession after shifting cultivation was investigated in eastern Kangwon-Do, Korea and it was found that P. densiflora was thinned through interspecific competition and Q. mongolica was regenerated by itself in the later tree stage.
Secondary Succession and Natural Habitat Restoration in Abandoned Rice Fields of Central Korea
The pace and direction of recovery of native vegetation and natural soil properties in these abandoned rice paddies resembled classic old field succession, a form of secondary succession that often serves as a template for guiding restoration efforts.
Floristic Composition of Plant Community in Set-Aside Fields with Regard to Seral Stages
In the fellowed paddy fields, the species diversity was relatively higher in the fields set-asided as wet condition compared to the fields fellowed as dry condition.
Changes of Ecological Traits of Weed Species as Affected by Fallow Period in Paddy Fields
This study describes a pattern of weed species occurrence according to fallow period in paddy fields. The fields were abandoned in October 1995 and we investigated weed occurrence in September and
Changes of Physico-chemical Soil Properties, Major Soil Nutrient Contents, and Weed Vegetation in Paddy Fields during Fallow Period
Changes in physico-chemical properties and major nutrient contents were investigated in the soil of paddy fields during fallow period. Weed vegetation change in the fallow paddy fields was also
