Lumbar myelographic defects consistent with herniated disc were found in 108 asymptomatic patients undergoing myelography for other reasons. Within 3 years, 64% of these patients developed symptoms of lumbosacral radiculopathy. The clinical features of these patients comprise a syndrome significantly different from that typically associated with classical lumbar disc herniation: the syndrome described here carries a much higher incidence of silent root compression with minimal pain. Lumbar disk herniation with contralateral symptoms
TLDR
The data clears that sciatica can be caused by contralateral lumbar disk herniation and intervention only from the herniated side is sufficient.
Lumbar Disc Herniation Presented with Contralateral Symptoms
TLDR
The traction force generated on the contralateral side and lateral recess stenosis of the symptomatic side, rather than direct compression, may cause thecontralateral neurologic deficits observed in LDH.
Lumbar disc herniation with contralateral radiculopathy: a systematic review on pathophysiology and surgical strategies
TLDR
There is not enough scientific evidence to define the best surgical approach for patients with LDH and contralateral pain, so a systematic review of the literature was performed using MEDLINE (via PubMed) using MeSH terms.
Lumbar root compression in the lateral recess: MR imaging, conventional myelography, and CT myelography comparison with surgical confirmation.
TLDR
Although MR imaging is a superb study when used in the search for degenerative disk disease and disk protrusion, conventional myelography is a crucial supplemental study that is necessary to confirm degenerative root impingement in the lateral recess as the cause of radiculopathy.
The non-invasive investigation of lumbar disc degeneration in patients with chronic low back pain.
TLDR
This prospective study was undertaken to determine whether preliminary CT could offer any information about disc degeneration and so reduce the demand on a MRI scanner and a useful algorithm for the investigation and assessment of patients with chronic low back pain is discussed.

TLDR
Spinal CT scans and radiculograms of 100 patients who had undergone both examinations were studied with the aim of identifying morphologic CT features associated with compression of the intrathecal segment of the nerve root as demonstrated by Radiculography, and it proved to be possible to distinguish locations with CT features likely to correlate well the radiculate picture from those less likely to show good correlation.
Historical Considerations The term “subluxation” has a long history in the healing arts
Basic science and clinical models of the vertebral subluxation are reviewed. Neurobiological mechanisms associated with these models are described. Models reviewed include the subluxation complex
Models of Vertebral Subluxation: A Review
TLDR
Clinical models, including the segmental, postural, and tonal approaches are discussed, and basic science and clinical models of the vertebral subluxation are reviewed.

Abnormal myelograms in asymptomatic patients.
TLDR
The incidence of myelographic abnormalities in 300 patients who were studied by posterior fossa myelography to establish a diagnosis of acoustic tumor is reported, even though patients had no symptoms of cervical or lumbar nerve root compression at the time of the examination.
Extreme-lateral lumbar disc herniations. Clinical syndrome and special problems of diagnosis.
✓ The authors believe that posterior lumbar disc herniations that occur far laterally (beneath, or beyond the facet) present a clinical picture and special problems of diagnosis different from those
Correlation of the myelogram with clinical and operative findings in lumbar disc lesions.
TLDR
It is believed that myelography should routinely precede surgery for lumbar disc lesions unless surgical treatment is being considered, and in cases in which operation for a lumbr disc lesion is clearly indicated on the basis of the clinical picture and lack of response to conservative treatment, a negative myelogram should not prevent the surgeon from exploring the lumbAR spinal canal.
The “False Positive” Lumbar Myelogram
TLDR
A large series of myelograms is essentially unobtainable in individuals whose spinal subarachnoid space is known to be clinically normal, so the opportunity does arise, however, to survey the area of minimal defect with a total failure to expose any discernible disease.
Vesical Dysfunction Due to Prolapsed Disc
TLDR
Any young or middle-aged woman developing incontinence and retention with a sterile urine must be fully investigated to exclude a disc lesion, provided a gynaecological cause is excluded.
The predictive value of myelography in the diagnosis of ruptured lumbar discs.
TLDR
A prospective clinical study was designed to obtain the data necessary for an analysis of the likelihood that a positive myelogram truly predicts a ruptured disc or, if normal, that it truly predicts the absence of a rupture.
