We consider the symmetric and broken phases of light-front $\phi^4$ theory in two dimensions. In both cases the mass of the lowest state is computed and its dependence on the coupling used to infer critical coupling values. The structure of the eigenstate is examined to determine whether it shows the signs of critical behavior, specifically whether the one-body sector becomes improbable relative to the higher Fock sectors. In attempts to establish this behavior, we consider both sector…

Light-Front Versus Equal-Time Quantization in $$\varvec{\phi ^4}$$ϕ4 Theory

There is a discrepancy between light-front and equal-time values for the critical coupling of two-dimensional $$\phi ^4$$ϕ4 theory. A proposed resolution is to take into account the difference

Phase Transition in Light-Front 4

We reproduce Chang’s duality condition in a regularized φ 4 theory quantized on a light front. The regularization involves higher derivatives in the Lagrangian, renders the model finite in the

Two-dimensional light-front ϕ 4 theory in a symmetric polynomial basis

We study the lowest-mass eigenstates of ${\ensuremath{\phi}}_{1+1}^{4}$ theory with both odd and even numbers of constituents. The calculation is carried out as a diagonalization of the light-front

Phase transition in light-front (1+1)-dimensionalφ4theory

It is demonstrated that the light-front quantization is a natural way to treat systems with higher derivatives, and the phase transition is related to the presence of tachyons in the regularized theory.

Spontaneous symmetry breaking in light front field theory

A semiclassical picture of spontaneous symmetry breaking in light front field theory is formulated. It is based on a finite-volume quantization of self-interacting scalar fields obeying antiperiodic

Renormalization in the light-front Tamm-Dancoff approach to field theory.

This paper illustrates the simplest features of the light-front Tamm-Dancoff approach using the Yukawa model in 1+1 dimensions.

Spontaneous symmetry breaking at infinite momentum without P+ zero modes

It is shown that the physics of SSB in scalar quantum field theory in 1+1 space-time dimensions is accurately described without a zero mode.

Application of the light-front coupled-cluster method to ϕ 4 theory in two dimensions

As a first numerical application of the light-front coupled-cluster (LFCC) method, we consider the odd-parity massive eigenstate of $\phi_{1+1}^4$ theory. The eigenstate is built as a Fock-state

Light Front Quantization

More than twenty years after quantum chromodynamics (QCD) was introduced as a microscopic theory of strong interactions, very little is known about its solutions. At least in principle, it should be

Variational calculation of the spectrum of two-dimensional phi4 theory in light-front field theory.

It is proved that a coherent state may be a valid vacuum in light-front field theory and how to solve for the ground state of the strong-coupling (${\ensuremath{\varphi}}^{4}$${)}_{2}$ problem on the light front is demonstrated.
