As soon as the geometry expands quasi-exponentially the plasma sources are customarily tuned to zero as if the duration of the inflationary phase was immaterial for the gauge field fluctuations at large-scale. The serendipitous disappearance of the plasma (or even the partial neglect of its effects) depends on the symmetries of the system which are, in four space-time dimensions and in the simplest Abelian case, the invariance under Weyl rescaling and the electromagnetic duality symmetry. The…

Bootstrapping from inflationary magnetogenesis to CMB initial conditions
The temperature and polarization anisotropies of the cosmic microwave background are analyzed under the hypothesis that the same inflationary seed accounting for protogalactic magnetism also affects
Effective horizons, junction conditions and large-scale magnetism
The quantum mechanical generation of hypermagnetic and hyperlectric fields in four-dimensional conformally flat background geometries rests on the simultaneous continuity of the effective horizon and
Inflationary susceptibilities, duality, and large-scale magnetic field generation
We investigate what can be said about the interaction of scalar fields with Abelian gauge fields during a quasi-de Sitter phase of expansion and under the assumption that the electric and the
Fluctuations of inflationary magnetogenesis
This analysis aims at exploring what can be said about the growth rate of magnetized inhomogeneities under two concurrent hypotheses: a phase of quasi-de Sitter dynamics driven by a single inflaton

Large-scale magnetogenesis is analyzed within the Palatini approach when the gravitational action is supplemented by a contribution that is nonlinear in the Einstein-Hilbert term. While the addition
Spectator electric fields, de Sitter spacetime, and the Schwinger effect
During a de Sitter stage of expansion the spectator fields of different spin are constrained by the critical density bound and by further requirements determined by their specific physical nature.
Spontaneous magnetization of a vacuum in the hot Universe and intergalactic magnetic fields
We review the spontaneous magnetization of the vacuum of non-Abelian gauge fields at high temperature. The standard model of particles is investigated as a particular example. By using both analytic

Weyl invariance and the conductivity of the protoinflationary plasma
We consider a globally neutral Lorentzian plasma as a possible remnant of a preinflationary stage of expansion and pose the problem of the suitable initial conditions for the evolution of the
Electric-magnetic duality and the conditions of inflationary magnetogenesis
The magnetogenesis scenarios triggered by the early variation of the gauge coupling are critically analyzed. In the absence of sources, it is shown that the electric power spectra can be explicitly
Magnetic fields in the early universe in the string approach to MHD
There is a reformulation of magnetohydrodynamics in which the fundamental dynamical quantities are the positions and velocities of the lines of magnetic flux in the plasma, which turn out to obey
Magnetogenesis and the dynamics of internal dimensions
The dynamical evolution of internal spacelike dimensions breaks the invariance of Maxwell's equations under Weyl rescaling of the (conformally flat) four-dimensional metric. Depending upon the number
Magnetohydrodynamics in the Early Universe and the Damping of Non-linear Alfven Waves
The evolution and viscous damping of cosmic magnetic fields in the early universe is analyzed. Using the fact that the fluid, electromagnetic, and shear viscous energy-momentum tensors are all
Fluid phonons and inflaton quanta at the protoinflationary transition
Quantum and thermal fluctuations of an irrotational fluid are studied across the transition regime connecting a protoinflationary phase of decelerated expansion to an accelerated epoch driven by a
Large-scale magnetic fields in the inflationary universe
The generation of large-scale magnetic fields is studied in the inflationary cosmology. We consider a very general situation in which the conformal invariance of the Maxwell field is violated through
Spectator field dynamics in de Sitter and curvaton initial conditions
We investigate the stochastic behaviour of long wavelength modes of light spectator scalar fields during inflation. When starting from a classical field value, the probability distribution for the
