We discuss SU(2) Bogomolny monopoles of arbitrary charge k invariant under various symmetry groups. The analysis is largely in terms of the spectral curves, the rational maps, and the Nahm equations associated with monopoles. We consider monopoles invariant under inversion in a plane, monopoles with cyclic symmetry, and monopoles having the symmetry of a regular solid. We introduce the notion of a strongly centred monopole and show that the space of such monopoles is a geodesic submanifold of… Expand

Monopole Scattering with a Twist
Abstract By imposing certain combined inversion and rotation symmetries on the rational maps for SU(2) BPS monopoles we construct geodesics in the monopole moduli space. In the moduli spaceExpand
Monopoles in AdS
Applications to holographic theories have led to some recent interest in magnetic monopoles in four-dimensional Anti-de Sitter spacetime. This paper is concerned with a study of these monopoles,Expand
On the Tetrahedrally Symmetric Monopole
We study SU(2) BPS monopoles with spectral curves of the form η3+χ(ζ6+bζ3−1) = 0. Previous work has established a countable family of solutions to Hitchin’s constraint that L2 was trivial on such aExpand
Inversion symmetric 3-monopoles and the Atiyah-Hitchin manifold
We consider 3-monopoles symmetric under inversion symmetry. We show that the moduli space of these monopoles is an Atiyah - Hitchin submanifold of the 3-monopole moduli space. This allows what isExpand
Polyhedral scattering of fundamental monopoles
The dynamics of n slowly moving fundamental monopoles in the SU(n+1) BPS Yang–Mills–Higgs theory can be approximated by geodesic motion on the 4n-dimensional hyperkahler Lee–Weinberg–Yi manifold. InExpand
The moduli space metric for tetrahedrally symmetric 4-monopoles
Abstract The metric on the moduli space of SU(2) charge four BPS monopoles with tetrahedral symmetry is calculated using numerical methods. In the asymptotic region, in which the four monopoles areExpand
Aspects of Vortices and Hyperbolic Monopoles
This thesis discusses BPS monopoles in hyperbolic space and BPS vortices in the presence of magnetic impurities. We prove explicit formulae for the spectral curve and rational map of a JNR-typeExpand
Magnetic monopole dynamics, supersymmetry, and duality
Abstract We review the properties of BPS, or supersymmetric, magnetic monopoles, with an emphasis on their low-energy dynamics and their classical and quantum bound states. After an overview ofExpand
Spectral Curves and the Mass of Hyperbolic Monopoles
The moduli spaces of hyperbolic monopoles are naturally fibred by the monopole mass, and this leads to a nontrivial mass dependence of the holomorphic data (spectral curves, rational maps,Expand
Parabolic Higgs bundles and cyclic monopole chains.
We establish a correspondence between SU(2) monopole chains and "spectral data", consisting of curves in $\mathbb{CP}^1\times\mathbb{CP}^1$ equipped with parabolic line bundles. This is the analogExpand

The geodesic approximation for the Yang-Mills-Higgs equations
In this paper we consider the dynamics of the monopole solutions of Yang-Mills-Higgs theory on Minkowski space. The monopoles are solutions of the Yang-Mills-Higgs equations on three dimensionalExpand
On the Construction of Monopoles for
Monopoles are solutions of a first order partial differential equation — the Bogomolny equation. They can be thought of as approximated by static, magnetic particles in R. In these notes we willExpand
Classical and quantum dynamics of BPS monopoles
Abstract The dynamics of two non-relativistic BPS monopoles is described using the Atiyah-Hitchin metric on the space of collective coordinates of the monopoles. M . Classical orbits correspond toExpand
Geometry and kinematics of two Skyrmions
In Skyrme's soliton model of baryons, a single Skyrmion has six degrees of freedom, so it is expected that two-Skyrmion dynamics at modest energies can be modelled by motion on a 12-dimensional spaceExpand
The Geometry and Dynamics of Magnetic Monopoles
Systems governed by non-linear differential equations are of fundamental importance in all branches of science, but our understanding of them is still extremely limited. In this book a particularExpand
Monopoles and rational maps: A note on a theorem of Donaldson
In a recent paper, Donaldson gave a description of the moduli space of SU(2) monopoles in terms of rational maps; this was done indirectly, via the associated solution of Nahm's equations. We giveExpand
Differential cross sections and escape plots for low-energy solitonic SU(2) BPS magnetic monopole dynamics
Abstract We compute the low-energy classical differential scattering cross section for solitonic BPS SU(2) magnetic monopoles using the geodesic approximation to the actual dynamics and 32K virtualExpand
Rings of monopoles with discrete axial symmetry: explicit solution for N=3
Abstract It is shown that, in contrast to continuous axial symmetry, discrete axial symmetry admits separated SU(2) monopoles in static equilibrium. The Corrigan-Goddard conditions on the parametersExpand
