The swimming performance of the saucer scallop Amusium balloti (Bernardi) was recorded from tests conducted in a natural environment in Shark Bay, Western Australia, in June, July and November 1984 and June and September 1985. Unlike all other scallops described in the literature, the swimming performance (both speed and distance) of A. balloti increases with size.
