Emergence of Cooperation in a Bio-inspired Multi-agent System
A multi-agent simulation inspired by army ant behavior is presented, to model and comprehend this biological behavior by computer simulation.
Swarm Intelligence Algorithms and Applications to Real-world Optimization Problems: A Survey
The technology of swarm intelligence that is motivated by the social habit of animals has been found effective to handle complex problems and its application to some of the real world optimization problems such as timetabling, scheduling, transportation, and logistics problems is examined.

Ant colony optimisation for vehicle traffic systems: applications and challenges
A general framework in applying ant colony optimisation to VTS is proposed by proposing a general framework of the most relevant systems based on novel taxonomy for solving vehicle traffic congestion problem.
Bio-inspired multi-agent systems for reconfigurable manufacturing systems
An exploration of the literature on the use of 'swarm intelligence-based techniques' for public service problems
This paper presents a review of Swarm Intelligence (SI) applications in public services (including PSPs in specific application areas), as well as the models and SI algorithms that have been reported in the literature.
Multi-Constraint Optimized Planning of Tasks on Virtualized-Service Pool for Mission-Oriented Swarm Intelligent Systems
This paper mapped this planning problem to an optimization searching problem, and then proposed a Genetic-Algorithm-based mechanism, and Experimental results show that this new mechanism is efficient to solve such resource-related and mission-oriented cooperation problems in complicated environments.

It is shown in the paper that ALife approach can be successful to "attack" transportation problems characterized by uncertainty and the fuzzy ant system represents an attempt to handle the uncertainty that sometimes exists in some complex transportation problems.
Bee Colony Optimization – a Cooperative Learning Approach to Complex Transportation Problems
The development of the new heuristic algorithm for the Ride-matching problem using the proposed approach serves as an illustrative example and shows the characteristics of the proposed concepts.
Ant colony system: a cooperative learning approach to the traveling salesman problem
The results show that the ACS outperforms other nature-inspired algorithms such as simulated annealing and evolutionary computation, and it is concluded comparing ACS-3-opt, a version of the ACS augmented with a local search procedure, to some of the best performing algorithms for symmetric and asymmetric TSPs.
Ant system: optimization by a colony of cooperating agents
It is shown how the ant system (AS) can be applied to other optimization problems like the asymmetric traveling salesman, the quadratic assignment and the job-shop scheduling, and the salient characteristics-global data structure revision, distributed communication and probabilistic transitions of the AS.
Parallelization strategies for the ant system
Two parallelization strategies for an Ant System implementation are developed and evaluated: the synchronous parallel algorithm and the partially asynchronous parallel algorithm.
Computing with Bees: Attacking Complex Transportation Engineering Problems
The Bee System represents the new, successful application of emergent techniques based on natural metaphors, such as simulated annealing, genetic algorithms, and neural networks, to the complex engineering and management problems.
An Improved Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm for Vehicle Routing Problem with Time Windows
A computational-efficient VRPTW algorithm, which is based on the principles of particle swarm optimization (PSO), is presented and results indicate that the new PSO algorithm can effectively and quickly get optimal resolution ofVRPTW.

Ant Colony Optimization and Swarm Intelligence
This paper presents a meta-modelling framework for Swarm Intelligence and Collective Robotics that automates the very labor-intensive and therefore time-heavy and expensive process of designing and deploying swarm-bots.
Distributed Optimization by Ant Colonies
A distributed problem solving environment is introduced and its use to search for a solution to the travelling salesman problem is proposed.
