  • In the majority of patients suxamethonium has no significant effect on bronchial calibre nor does it act as a histamine liberator. A number of cases have, however, been published in which there was evidence of histamine release by suxamethonium and, in some of these, broncho-spasm was produced 1-3. The evidence that suxamethonium has liberated histamine has been based on post-operative skin testing in which intradermal administration produced a histaminelike flare and weal.
