Abstract

The general phenomena associated with sustained resonance are studied in this paper in connection with relativistic binary pulsars We employ a theorem of C Robinson to argue that resonance capture does occur under favorable conditions in a dynamical system that represents a Keplerian binary under radiative perturbations Speci cally our model involves gravitational radiation damping in a system that is also subject to a normally incident circularly polarized gravitational wave Sustained resonance can occur when the perturbing in uences nearly balance each other
