Surprising Genetic Diversity in Rhinolophus luctus (Chiroptera: Rhinolophidae) from Peninsular Malaysia: Description of a New Species Based on Genetic and Morphological Characters
@inproceedings{Volleth2015SurprisingGD, title={Surprising Genetic Diversity in Rhinolophus luctus (Chiroptera: Rhinolophidae) from Peninsular Malaysia: Description of a New Species Based on Genetic and Morphological Characters}, author={Marianne Volleth and Josef Loidl and Frieder Mayer and Hoi Sen Yong and Stefan Müller and Klaus‐Gerhard Heller}, year={2015} }
In the family Rhinolophidae, the members of the trifoliatus clade are easily recognisable by a unique noseleaf structure and a fluffy fur. Within this group, Rhinolophus luctus is the largest species with currently six recognized subspecies, distributed from India to Bali. We investigated genetic (karyotype, mitochondrial DNA sequence) and morphological characters from a Peninsular Malaysian sample. Although the diploid number was 2n = 32 in all specimens, karyotype analysis revealed two…

Comparative Chromosomal Studies in Rhinolophus formosae and R. luctus from China and Vietnam: Elevation of R. l. lanosus to Species Rank
- BiologyActa Chiropterologica
- 2017
In the present work, the karyotypes of a male bat from Vietnam and a female one from China, both classified as R. luctus by morphological characters, were studied by G-banding and fluorescence in situ hybridization with whole chromosome painting probes derived from Aselliscus stoliczkanus.

- Biology
- 2016
A range extension for a little known species, Rhinolophus chiewkweeae, in the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia is presented and the first genetic information (cytochrome oxidase I) of the species is provided in order to discriminate between members of the pearsoni species group.
Multilocus phylogeny and species delimitation within the philippinensis group (Chiroptera: Rhinolophidae)

- BiologyJournal of Mammalian Evolution
- 2016
A large-scale phylogeny of bats based on unconstrained searches for a data matrix of 804 non-chimeric, taxonomically updated bat terminals yielded a highly resolved, variously supported phylogeny that recovered the majority of currently recognized clades at all levels of the chiropteran tree.

The mitogenome of R. rex will be useful for the conservation genetics of this endangered species and verified that mtDNA sequences generated from next-generation sequencing are reliable.
Advances in systematics of bats: towards a consensus on species delimitation and classifications through integrative taxonomy
- BiologyJournal of Mammalogy
- 2019
A review of recent issues in chiropteran systematics, including comments on how the use of integrative taxonomy helped to solve them are presented, to provide exemplar guidelines that can be useful to taxonomists for the creation of stable classifications without subjectivity and limitations of single datasets.
