Eighty-three patients underwent pulmonary metastatectomy as part of a combined modality approach between 1. 1. 1972 and 31. 12. 1988 and 80 were followed up until 1. 1. 1990 or until death, with an average follow-up of 110 months. The estimated 5-, 10-, and 15-year survival rate was 38%, 32%, and 22% respectively. Recurrent pulmonary metastases were observed in 60% of the patients during follow-up with an estimated 24 months relapse-free survival rate of 50%. An additional 20% of the patients…
Pulmonary metastasectomy: review of experience at a tertiary cancer care center.
TLDR
Disease-free interval of more than 1 year along with less than 2 malignant nodules in patients with non-visceral pulmonary metastasis are variables identified in the present study which have enabled pulmonary metastasectomy to be offered as a safe therapeutic lifeline to patients.
The surgical treatment of pulmonary metastases.
TLDR
The literature does support the anecdotal observation that patients with metastatic disease can achieve long-term survival following surgical excision, irrespective of the source of the primary neoplasm, if there is no demonstrable extrathoracic disease and complete excision of the pulmonary disease is possible.
Pulmonary metastectomy. Current indications for removing lung metastases.
TLDR
Despite a great deal of literature on pulmonary metastectomy, the treatment of pulmonary metastases remains somewhat controversial, and the development of certain algorithms to approach this problem are discussed.
Lung cancer: a model for implementing stereotactic body radiation therapy into practice.
TLDR
Great care must be taken when employing SBRT near the serially functioning central chest structures including the esophagus and major airways, especially with adequate doses capable of ablating tumor targets.
Efficacy of Computer-Aided Detection System and Thin-Slab Maximum Intensity Projection Technique in the Detection of Pulmonary Nodules in Patients With Resected Metastases
TLDR
In candidates for metastatectomy, reading with the aid of either CAD or MIP significantly improved the detection of malignant nodules compared with using thin-section CT alone.
