Surgeons question future of surgical training, second opinions.

Abstract

Surgeons who attended the October 1978 meeting of the American College of Surgeons questioned the future of their specialty in an era when government agencies are emphasizing primary care. What will the role of future surgeons be? How will they be trained? Will they find themselves competing with family practitioners for hospital privileges? These questions were posed, but answers were scarce.
