Recently, zwitterionic materials have been developed as alternatives to PEG for prolonging the circulation time of nanoparticles without triggering immune responses. However, zwitterionic coatings also hindered the interactions between nanoparticles and tumor cells, leading to less efficient uptake of nanoparticles by cancer cells.
