Chronic immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is manifested by autoantibody-induced platelet destruction. Platelet turnover studies suggest that autoantibody may also affect platelet production. To evaluate this, we studied the effect of plasma from adult patients with chronic ITP on in vitro megakaryocyte production.
