In this paper we describe some results of the Alice project. Alice is an ontology-based e-commerce project which aims to support online users in the task of shopping. Ontologies describing customers, products, typical shopping tasks and the external context form the basis for the Alice architecture. We also build upon two novel interface metaphors originally developed for navigating databases: the Guides metaphor and Dynamic Queries. The Guides metaphor was developed at Apple to reduce the… Expand
Magpie - Towards a Semantic Web Browser
TLDR
Magpie is described, a tool which supports the interpretation of web pages and automatically associates an ontology-based semantic layer to web resources, allowing relevant services to be invoked within a standard web browser. Expand
Semantic Shopping: A Literature Study
TLDR
This work distinguishes alternative types of shopping intentions to provide the first set of conversation patterns in semantic shopping, which is to facilitate an intention-based shopping experience similar to the way semantic search engines provide responses to enquiries. Expand
Semantic Web User Interfaces: A Systematic Mapping Study and Review
TLDR
Important gaps exist which hinder a wide adoption of Semantic Web technologies and experimental research hardly used any proven theories and instruments specically designed for investigating technology acceptance. Expand
Developing semantic VR-shops for e-Commerce
TLDR
An approach to develop VR-shops that allows specifying a VR-shop using high-level conceptual specifications and in terms of domain terminology; semantics are captured by ontologies; existing product information can be incorporated; and the actual code is generated. Expand
3D Visualisation for Online Retail
This work investigates the effect of 3D product visualisation on online shopping behaviour. A virtual shopping interface with product categories projected in both 2D and 3D was developed andExpand
Towards an iMAS Model Ontology: An Intelligent Mobile Advertising Service
TLDR
This paper introduces a formal approach to the iMAS model ontology, an overview of retail and marketing ontologies and the i MAS model ontologies, and challenges and future work. Expand
Ontology-Based Information Search in the Real World Using Web Services
TLDR
This work designs the architecture of search systems based on the ontology using Web services, constructs a hotel ontology integrated with the related terms and implements a search example with the defined ontology. Expand
Representations for semantic learning webs: Semantic Web technology in learning support
TLDR
This paper outlines an initial framework that extends the use of semantic technologies as a means of providing learning services that are owned and created by learning communities. Expand
IRS-III: A broker-based approach to semantic Web services
TLDR
IRS-III, a framework for creating and executing semantic Web services, which takes a semantic broker-based approach to mediating between service requesters and service providers is described. Expand
3D Virtual Environment Navigation Aid Techniques for Novice Users Using Topic Map
TLDR
According to an experiment done to evaluate the proposed navigation tool, the tool was more helpful in finding detailed object than highly represented objects and it could be seen that providing the surrounding knowledge is effective for object selection by users when that target for searching is not defined. Embedding critics in design environments
TLDR
It is argued that computer-based critiquing systems are most effective when they are embedded in domain-oriented design environments, which are knowledge-based computer systems that support designers in specifying a problem and constructing a solution. Expand
Ontology-driven document enrichment: principles, tools and applications
In this paper, we present an approach to document enrichment, which consists of developing and integrating formal knowledge models with archives of documents, to provide intelligent knowledgeExpand
Guides 3.0
TLDR
The Guides prototype demonstrates the use of narrative metaphor and anthropomorphic agents for browsing a multimedia database of early American history and makes recommendations of database items to be browsed which are consistent with the user's interests. Expand
Personalization of Supermarket Product Recommendations
TLDR
A personalized recommender system designed to suggest new products to supermarket shoppers in a pervasive computing environment in which supermarket customers use Personal Digital Assistants to compose and transmit their orders to the store, which assembles them for subsequent pickup. Expand
Tadzebao and WebOnto: discussing, browsing, and editing ontologies on the Web
TLDR
Tadzebao enables knowledge engineers to hold synchronous and asynchronous discussions about ontologies, and WebOnto uses a Java based client to alleviate the acknowledged problems of creating interfaces in `vanilla HTML'. Expand
Issues in multimedia interface design: media integration and interface agents
TLDR
Techniques for achieving media integration are discussed and the use of interface agents in facilitating 'navigation', enhancing content through point of view, and supporting users in a variety of instrumental and experiential tasks are details. Expand
Dynamic queries for information exploration: an implementation and evaluation
TLDR
A new concept for direct manipulation of databases, called dynamic queries, that allows users to formulate queries with graphical widgets, such as sliders, is designed, implemented and evaluated. Expand
Customer Satisfaction and Purchasing Behaviour in a Web-based Shopping Environment
TLDR
The results of this study indicate a strong positive relationship between the shopping experience, i.e. the level of consumer satisfaction, and the amount of purchases made, in a computer mediated shopping environment. Expand
PTV: Intelligent Personalised TV Guides
TLDR
The development of the PTV system is described, which tackles the information overload problem associated with modern TV listings data, by providing an Internet-based personalised TV listings service so that each registered user receives a daily TV guide that has been specially compiled to suit their particular viewing preferences. A translation approach to portable ontology specifications
TLDR
This paper describes a mechanism for defining ontologies that are portable over representation systems, basing Ontolingua itself on an ontology of domain-independent, representational idioms. Expand
