The SignWriting system (developed at the Center for Sutton Movement Writing, Ca., USA), is a writing system for deaf sign languages. In SignWriting, signs are represented as figures made up of graphic symbols, each symbol schematically representing an important a spect of the sign gestures: hand configurations, hand and finger movements, contacts, facial expressions, etc. SWML (SignWriting Markup Language) is an XML-based format that we are developing for the storage and processing of…
SignWriting -Based Sign Language Processing
This paper proposes an approach to the computer processing of deaf sign languages that uses SignWriting as the writing system for deaf sign languages, and SWML (SignWriting Markup Language) as its
VSigns - A Virtual Sign Synthesis Web Tool
TLDR
This paper presents a new Web tool for converting text to Sign Language notation and corresponding VRML animation sequences for H-anim compliant avatars, based on a Sign Language dictionary written in the well-known SignWriting system.
SignWriting on mobile phones for the deaf
TLDR
Examination of the feasibility of writing and reading text messages in signs as an alternative communication mean besides SMS has significantly exemplified that SignWriting gains well acceptance and is preferred among the hearing-impaired community to communicate within or between the hearing communities.
A System to Generate SignWriting for Video Tracks Enhancing Accessibility of Deaf People
TLDR
A system that contributes to make multimedia content more accessible on the Web, by automatically translating subtitles in oral language to SignWriting, a way of writing Sign Language, is described.
Sign synthesis from SignWriting notation using MPEG-4 standard , HAnim and inverse kinematics techniques
TLDR
A novel approach is presented for generating VRML animation sequences from Sign Language notation, based on MPEG-4 Face and Body Animation, to animate H-anim compliant VRML avatars, reproducing the exact gestures represented in the sign language notation.
Sign synthesis from SignWriting notation using MPEG-4, H-Anim parameters and inverse kinematics
TLDR
A novel approach is presented for generating VRML animation sequences from Sign Language notation, based on MPEG-4 Face and Body Animation, which provides a simple and effective way for common people with hearing disabilities that have no special training in sign language linguistics to write in sign languages.
Gesture synthesis from sign language notation using MPEG-4 humanoid animation parameters and inverse kinematics
TLDR
This paper presents a novel approach for generating VRML animation sequences from sign language notation, based on MPEG-4 face and body animation, for interactive information systems for the persons with hearing disabilities and automatic translation of written texts to sign language.
CSLML: a markup language for expressive Chinese sign language synthesis
TLDR
A Chinese Sign Language Markup Language (CSLML) is presented, which integrates prosodic information into grammatical regulation to provide a more effective way in describing the features of Chinese sign language.
Text-to-sign language synthesis tool
TLDR
The proposed application aims in providing a computer-based sign-language synthesis output for the deaf and the hearing impaired and may be used as a teaching tool for relatives of deaf people as well as people interested in learning the sign language.
CSLML: a markup language for expressive Chinese sign language synthesis
TLDR
This paper presents a Chinese Sign Language Markup Language (CSLML), which is developed for expressive Chinese sign language synthesis by introducing features and structure of sign language prosody and introduces a framework for this mapping processing and exhibits results of the animated prototype system based on this framework.
