We obtain constraints from black hole superradiance in an ensemble of compactifications of type IIB string theory. The constraints require knowing only the axion masses and self-interactions, and are insensitive to the cosmological model. We study more than $10^5$ Calabi-Yau manifolds with Hodge numbers $1\leq h^{1,1}\leq 491$ and compute the axion spectrum at two reference points in moduli space for each geometry. Our computation of the classical theory is explicit, while for the instanton…

The program in machine-learning mathematical structures is discussed and the tantalizing question of how it helps doing mathematics is addressed, ranging from mathematical physics, to geometry, to representation theory, to combinatorics and to number theory.
Moduli stabilisation and the statistics of axion physics in the landscape
• Physics

String theory realisations of the QCD axion are often said to belong to the anthropic window where the decay constant is around the GUT scale and the initial misalignment angle has to be tuned close
Astrophysical and Cosmological Probes of Dark Matter

While astrophysical and cosmological probes provide a remarkably precise and consistent picture of the quantity and general properties of dark matter, its fundamental nature remains one of the most

ALP dark matter in a primordial black hole dominated universe

We investigate the phenomenological consequences of axion-like particle (ALP) dark matter with an early matter domination triggered by primordial black holes (PBHs). We focus on light BHs with masses
An even lighter QCD axion
• Physics
• 2021
We explore whether the axion which solves the strong CP problem can naturally be much lighter than the canonical QCD axion. The $Z_\mathcal{N}$ symmetry proposed by Hook, with $\mathcal{N}$ mirror
Dark matter from an even lighter QCD axion: trapped misalignment

We show that dark matter can be accounted for by an axion that solves the strong CP problem, but is much lighter than usual due to a Z 𝒩 symmetry. The whole mass range from the canonical QCD axion
Friendship in the Axiverse: Late-time direct and astrophysical signatures of early-time nonlinear axion dynamics
A generic low-energy prediction of string theory is the existence of a large collection of axions, commonly known as a string axiverse. Axions also have a natural cosmological production mechanism,
Fuzzy Dark Matter Candidates from String Theory
• Physics

: String theory has been claimed to give rise to natural fuzzy dark matter candidates in the form of ultralight axions. In this paper we revisit this claim by a detailed study of how moduli
