The superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticle (SPIO) 'theranostics', which contain imaging probes for tumor diagnosis and therapeutic compounds for therapy in a single nanoparticle, might provide significant benefits compared with exiting tumor imaging and therapeutic strategies.
