Super-sampling Anti-aliasing Analyzed

  title={Super-sampling Anti-aliasing Analyzed},
  author={Kristof Beets and David L. Barron},
Reprinted with permission 1 Abstract This paper examines two varieties of super-sample anti-aliasing: Rotated Grid SuperSampling (RGSS) and Ordered Grid Super-Sampling (OGSS). RGSS employs a sub-sampling grid that is rotated around the standard horizontal and vertical offset axes used in OGSS by (typically) 20 to 30°. RGSS is seen to have one basic advantage over OGSS: More effective anti-aliasing near the horizontal and vertical axes, where the human eye can most easily detect screen aliasing…
Transparency and Anti-Aliasing Techniques for Real-Time Rendering
This tutorial reviews state-of-the-art techniques for transparency and anti-aliasing effects, their initial ideas and subsequent GPU accelerations, and supports the presentation with a discussion on their strengths and limitations.
Effective lens distortion correction for 3D range scannig systems
Nowadays lasers in the measurement industry are widely used. The accuracy of optical rangefinders, which detect a laser line directly from a taken frame, lies in precise laser line detection. By
Hardware accelerated computer graphics algorithms
This work looks at areas of current interest within the graphics community such as Texture Filtering, Bump Mapping and Depth of Field simulation, and a new hardware implementation of a texture filtering technique, aimed at consumer level hardware.
Integration with Stochastic Point Processes
It is shown that significant reductions in error can be obtained by considering alternative sampling strategies instead of the commonly used random jittering or low discrepancy patterns, and lead to novel insights.
Real-time rendering of algebraic B-spline surfaces via Bézier point insertion
A GPU-based real-time raycasting algorithm for piecewise algebraic surfaces in terms of tensor product B-splines and an iterative and unconditionally convergent algorithm called Bézier point insertion is proposed to find the roots of the univariate polynomials.
Design for Scalability in 3D Computer Graphics Architectures
This thesis describes useful methods and techniques for designing scalable hybrid parallel rendering architectures for 3D computer graphics. Various techniques for utilizing parallelism in a
This study aimed to develop a low-latency VR application with a case study of a game application for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder while maintaining good visual graphic quality and obtained the optimum combination of these visual components to obtain low latency and good visual graphics.
Arabic Localization of Video Games “Tomb Raider™ (2013)”: A Start or A Failure
An analysis of translation activities of video game Tomb Raider™ (2013) is made in order to investigate the extent to which the translation of some selected linguistic assets in the aforementioned video game can be considered to incorporate what the notion of localization truly suggests.
Multi-fragment visibility determination in the context of order-independent transparency rendering
Two novel techniques for order-independent transparency rendering are proposed, showing how to achieve the minimum memory footprint for computing exact transparency in a bounded number of geometry passes; allowing increasing scene complexity and image resolution to be feasible within current hardware capabilities.
A Low Cost Anti-aliasing Scheme for Mobile Devices
An improved anti-aliasing sampling algorithm is submitted to reduce the increasing memory consumption caused by super-sampling in mobile devices. Six-point anisotropy sampling blends the two samples

Using widely available data on human visual response, it is shown how this technique actually increases the perceived resolution of a display beyond the hardware resolution by factors of up to 16X.
The accumulation buffer: hardware support for high-quality rendering
A system architecture that supports realtime generation of complex images, efficient generation of extremely high-quality images, and a smooth trade-off between the two based on the paradigm of integration with an additional high-precision image buffer.
