This article reviews the risk factors for fatal and nonfatal suicidal behavior in children and adolescents. Numerous empirical studies suggest that mood disorders are among the most important risk factors for youth suicidal behavior. In addition, other psychosocial factors increase risk for youth suicidal behavior independent of mood disorders.
