The Sudanese village midwife can be defined as "an illiterate (or sometimes literate) woman, usually a mother, community chose, trained in a district midwifery school for about 9 months, after which she receives a certificate, is registered and becomes responsible for antenatal; intrapartum; and postnatal care of the mother and child in her village.
