Two infectious raccoon poxvirus (RCN) recombinants for expressing rabies virus surface spike glycoprotein (G) were produced by homologous recombination between raccoon poxvirus DNA and chimeric plasmids previously used for production of vaccinia virus recombinants. Expression of G protein was controlled by vaccinia virus promoter P7.5 (early/late class) or by P11 (late class).
