Since the results of the MOSAIC trial demonstrated an improved disease-free survival in stage III colorectal patients treated with oxaliplatin combined with 5-fluorouracil and folinic acid when they were compared with those treated with 5-fluorouracil and folinic acid alone, the addition of this organoplatin to 5-fluorouracil and folinic acid has become first-line adjuvant treatment for stage III colorectal cancer. Unfortunately, there is a small population of patients who develop grade III/IV…
A anaphylactic reaction to oxaliplatin
TLDR
An anaphylactic reaction to oxaliplatin is presented in a 63-year-old man with metastatic colon cancer, previously treated with a ninth cycle of oxali platin plus fluorouracil plus leucovorin as first-line palliative chemotherapy, without a hypersensitivity reaction.
High-dose dexamethasone plus antihistamine prevents colorectal cancer patients treated with modified FOLFOX6 from hypersensitivity reactions induced by oxaliplatin
TLDR
Increased doses of dexamethasone and antihistamine significantly reduced oxaliplatin-related hypersensitivity reactions and should be considered for all patients who receive FOLFOX, allowing treatment to be completed as planned.
Hypersensitivity reactions associated with oxaliplatin and their clinical management
TLDR
The presented management strategies as well as novel diagnostic tools including skin/intradermal tests and specific IgE have shown promising results, however, future research and validation are warranted in bigger clinical trials.

TLDR
The author discusses the incidence, clinical presentation, pathogenesis, risk factors and current strategies of management of HSR associated with oxaliplatin.
Report on the 10 cases of allergic reactions to oxaliplatin
TLDR
Applying calcium and magnesium may reduce the risk of neurotoxicity and reduce the degree of allergic reactions before administration of oxaliplatin.
Hypersensitivity Reactions Associated with Platinum Antineoplastic Agents: A Systematic Review
TLDR
Several management options are available to treating physicians: discontinuation of chemotherapy, premedication, prolonging of infusion duration, desensitization protocols, and replacement with a different platinum compound after performing skin tests that rule out cross-reactions among platinum agents.
Variant hypersensitivity reaction (HSR) presented with persistent dry cough after receiving oxaliplatin in a pancreatic cancer patient.
TLDR
A 75-year-old gentleman with gemcitabine refractory metastatic pancreatic cancer who received oxaliplatin and mitomycin C for palliation developed sudden onset dry cough without infectious etiology during the 4th infusion of oxali Platin.
Rechallenge with cisplatin in a patient with pancreatic cancer who developed a hypersensitivity reaction to oxaliplatin. Is skin test useful in this setting?
TLDR
This case is the first apparent example of platinum-containing therapy being able to continue in a patient with metastatic pancreatic cancer following a hypersensitivity reaction to oxaliplatin, by switching to cisplatin after a negative intradermal skin test.

Prevention of Oxaliplatin-Related Neurotoxicity by Calcium and Magnesium Infusions
TLDR
Ca/Mg infusions seem to reduce incidence and intensity of acute oxaliplatin-induced symptoms and might delay cumulative neuropathy, especially in 85 mg/m2 oxali Platin dosage.
Successful Desensitization to Oxaliplatin
TLDR
Desensitization for oxaliplatin was achieved using increased concentrations of the drug over an 8-hour period concomitant with oral and intravenous corticosteroids and histamine blockers, resulting in stable disease.
Hypersensitivity and idiosyncratic reactions to oxaliplatin
TLDR
A desensitization protocol was developed at an institution that allowed successful retreatment of a patient who had experienced a severe HSR to oxaliplatin and adapted from a previous report for anaphylaxis to carboplatin.
Hypersensitivity reactions to oxaliplatin.
TLDR
With the increasing use of oxaliplatin in clinical practice, physicians are now encountering an increasing incidence of suspected hypersensitivity reactions, and Physicians should keep their eyes wide open and carefully observe for the clinical manifestations of these hypers sensitivity reactions.
Hypersensitivity reactions to oxaliplatin and the application of a desensitization protocol.
TLDR
A desensitization protocol was developed and successfully applied to a patient with severe, grade 3, hypersensitivity to oxaliplatin and will help to provide the small number of patients who experience severe hypersensitivity reactions with the ability to further receive an effective therapy for their colorectal cancer.
Hypersensitivity Reactions to Oxaliplatin in Two Asian Patients
TLDR
Patients who develop mild to moderate reactions can be rechallenged with the drug administered as a slow infusion with prophylactic measures, and desensitization may allow patients who experience severe hypersensitivity reactions to oxaliplatin to further receive effective therapy for their colorectal cancer.
Oxaliplatin-associated hypersensitivity reactions: clinical presentation and management.
TLDR
After a mild hypersensitivity reaction to oxaliplatin, re-exposing a patient can be considered after administering immunosuppressants (eg, high-dose corticosteroids and histamine antagonists) and/or prolonging the duration of oxali Platin infusion.
Oxaliplatin, fluorouracil, and leucovorin as adjuvant treatment for colon cancer.
TLDR
Adding oxaliplatin to a regimen of fluorouracil and leucovorin improves the adjuvant treatment of colon cancer.
Hypersensitivity Reactions to oxaliplatin: incidence and management.
TLDR
Hypersensitivity is frequently seen with oxaliplatin, but most reactions are mild, and treatments prescribed for hypersensitivity were antihistamines, steroids, and topical emollients.
