This article examines the relationship between psychopathological subsyndromes in schizophrenia and cerebral alterations. A factor analysis of the psychopathological characteristics of 50 DSM-III schizophrenic patients revealed four subsyndromes. On the basis of these subsyndromes, four corresponding clusters of patients--remitted, chronic delusional, chronic asthenic, and chronic disorganized--were identified.
