    • Summary1. Substance P stimulates salivary secretion in rats (threshold dose 300–600 u/kg i.v.) and in dogs (threshold dose 10 u/kg i.a.). Rabbits up to the maximum tolerated doses (320 u/kg), and cats up to doses of 6300 u/kg do not respond by salivary secretion.2. Chymotrypsin destroys the effect of substance P preparations on salivary secretion. Atropine, dihydroergotamine, propranolol, antazoline and promethazine do not diminish the effect of eledoisin and substance P.3. It seems likely that… CONTINUE READING
