}The time lag of the QT interval adaptation to heart rate changes (QT/RR hysteresis) was studied in 40 healthy subjects (18 females; mean age, 30.4+/-8.1 yr) with 3 separate daytime (>13 h) 12-lead electrocardiograms (ECG) in each subject. In each recording, 330 individual 10-s ECG segments were measured, including 100 segments preceded by 2 min of heart rate varying greater than +/-2 beats/min. Other segments were preceded by a stable heart rate. In segments preceded by variable rate, QT/RR…

Evaluation of a subject-specific transfer-function-based nonlinear QT interval rate-correction method.
- EngineeringPhysiological measurement
- 2011
A subject-specific, nonlinear, transfer function-based correction method is formulated to compute the QTc from Holter ECG recordings and the proposed optimization approach provides a general mathematical framework for further extensions of the model.
QT-RR hysteresis is caused by differential autonomic states during exercise and recovery.
- Medicine, PsychologyAmerican journal of physiology. Heart and circulatory physiology
- 2012
It is concluded that QT-RR hysteresis is not caused by different directional changes in RR interval during exercise and recovery and is predominantly mediated by differential autonomic nervous system effects as the heart rate increases during exercise vs. as it decreases during recovery.
Physiologic heart rate dependency of the PQ interval and its sex differences

The study suggests that the curvatures and adaptation delay of the PQ/cycle-length dependency should be included in future non-invasive studies of atrial depolarizations.
Methods of Subject‐Specific Heart Rate Corrections
- BiologyJournal of clinical pharmacology
- 2018
By scanning through complete long-term Holter recordings and measuring QT intervals at a broad range of heart rates, the accuracy of QTcI values is substantially increased as evidenced by significant reduction of intrasubject variability.
Influence of heart rate correction formulas on QTc interval stability
- MedicineScientific reports
- 2021
Previous suggestions that Bazett correction should no longer be used in clinical practice are fully justified, replacing Bazett Correction with Fridericia and/or Framingham corrections would improve clinical QTc monitoring, and development of furtherQTc corrections for day-to-day use is not warranted.
Estimation of the QT-RR relation: trade-off between goodness-of-fit and extrapolation accuracy.
- MedicinePhysiological measurement
- 2017
The Fridericia formulation offered the best trade-off for QTc prediction robust to memory and fast heart rates, since accurate representation of the steeper QT-RR relation worsened the extrapolation that was then needed to determine the QTC.
Individually Rate Corrected QTc Intervals in Children and Adolescents
- MedicineFront. Physiol.
- 2019
It was shown that in children and adolescents, linear QT/RR models fit the intra-subject data significantly more closely than the log-linear models (p < 0.001), and the study speculates that hormonal shifts during puberty might be directly responsible for the QTc shortening in males but thatQTc prolongation in females is likely more complex since it was noted to follow the appearance of secondary sex signs only after a considerable delay.

QT-RR relationship in healthy subjects exhibits substantial intersubject variability and high intrasubject stability.
- MedicineAmerican journal of physiology. Heart and circulatory physiology

The QT-RR relationship exhibits substantial intersubject variability as well as a high intrasubject stability, which has practical implications for a precise estimation of the heart rate-corrected QT interval in which optimized subject-specific rate correction formulas should be used.

QT measurements in response to a change in pacing rate should take into account the time dependent nature of QT changes, which is found to be exponential and was characterised by a time constant.

The QT/RR relation exhibits a very substantial intersubject variability in healthy volunteers, and the hypothesis underlying each prospective heart rate correction formula that a “physiological” QT-RR relation exists that can be mathematically described and applied to all people is incorrect.
