Broadband processing is an important part of the Navy's current and future SONAR systems. This paper provides an introduction to a new class of passive broadband processing algorithms, Subband Energy Detection (SED), which includes both Subband Peak Energy Detection (SPED) and Subband Extrema Energy Detection (SEED).
