Over the past few years, our group has developed and studied a variety of video-based prototypes to support remote collaboration. We started with a basic desktop video conferencing system with a shared whiteboard and found that it was effective in supporting a distributed group’s conversations, but that many of their attempts to contact each other were unsuccessful.
