The study of somatotypes has important significance for medical and physical anthropology as well as sports science. [...] Key Method The study sample consisted of 429 people of Han nationality (207 males, 222 females) from Xi’an, China, aged ≥20 years old. The Heath-Carter anthropometric method was employed. We evaluated the differences in age and sex by one-way ANOVA and t test. A comparison of somatotypes between the Han and other nationalities was made using the U test. The results showed that the male and…Expand
Anthropometric Study among Chilean Older Adults
Evidence of an increase in gender difference regarding anthropometric parameters is provided, and the most frequent somatotype assignation in elderly adults is redefined to redefine and optimise the cluster definition.
Obesity and Heath-Carter Somatotyping of 3438 Adults in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China by Multivariate Analysis
It is found that there were significant differences in somatotype distribution among different obesity groups in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China and there was a strong correlation between overweight or obesity and endomorph-mesomorph, endomorphic mesomorph and mesomorphic endomorph.
Morphological asymmetry, sex and dominant somatotype among Polish youth
The findings demonstrated that dominant somatotype and sex both affect the level of fat mass asymmetry in the arms and legs, and significant variations in the levels of asymmetry between sexes were observed.
Somatotype Characteristics of Sunni Muslim Population: A Cross-sectional Study
Abstract The aim of this study was to understand the distribution of various somatotype components and determine the age- and sex-related variations of the somatotype among Sunni Muslim population of
Assessment of the Heath-Carter somatotype in adults using bioelectrical impedance analysis
Using cross-sectional anthropometric data of 897 ethnically Russian individuals aged 16-61 years from the European part of Russia, the accuracy of the previously proposed bioimpedance-based formulae for the assessment of the endomorphy and mesomarphy ratings of the Heath-Carter somatotype was checked and revised.
Relation Entre Le Somatotype Et La Qualite De Vitesse Chez Des Jeunes De Cote d’Ivoire
The aim of this study is to establish a link between the performance at speed race and the somatotype within young students from Cote d’Ivoire who are candidates for the recruitment test organized by
The impact of skinfolds measurement on somatotype determination in Heath-Carter method
Two common skinfold approaches produced different measurements between the supraspinale and iliac crest skinfolds, which subsequently affected estimated endomorphy.
Somatotype as a Component of the Biological Determinant of Mental Health
The paper summarizes the results of the studies devoted to the impact of a person's constitutional features on his or her mental state. According to many anthropologists, human constitution is
Application of Artificial Neural Network to Somatotype Determination
Somatotype characteristics are important for the selection of sporting activities, as well as and the prevalence of several chronic diseases. Nowadays the most common method of somatotyping is the
The relation of somatotypes and stress response to central serous chorioretinopathy
This study did not show a typical somatotype related to central serous chorioretinopathy, and did not see a higher elevation in blood cortisol following a stress response in this group in comparison with healthy subjects.

Sex- and age-related variations of the somatotype in a Chuvasha population.
Results of this study clearly suggest that in physique investigations, the somatotypes need to be studied in each sex separately, and in studies of young people, they need also to be adjusted to age.
Evidence for higher heritability of somatotype compared to body mass index in female twins.
The results of the present study have indicated that the somatotype may be more sensible to genetic influences than the BMI in females, and the BMI and the heritability indexes were lower than expected.
Changes of somatotype in high school students, V region, Chile: 1985-2010.
The somatotype of the adolescent population, especially women in Valparaiso, Chile has changed to a predominant endomorphic biotype, and its mesomorphic component has decreased, contributing to the probability for these people to suffer non-transmissible chronic diseases and cardiovascular issues.
Variations of Somatotype in elderly Sardinians
A dominance of the endo‐ and mesomorphic components in the elderly subjects, with less development of ectomorphy than in younger individuals are shown, with emphasis on the potential application of somatotype to studies of the elderly population.
A study on somatotypes of Hui adults by Heath-Carter method
A total of 392 subjects (180 males and 212 females) of Hui farmers aged 20 to 50 were somatotyped using Health-Carter method. The mean somatotype of Huis was of mesomorph (2.7-4.2-2.8) in males, and

The results indicate that physical stress not only causes retardation in linear growth, but also produces changes in human physique during the growth period.
Somatotypological characteristics of children with type 1 diabetes mellitus.
The somatotype of children with type 1 diabetes mellitus was defined and endomorphy increased becoming dominant in the diabetic children and equal to mesomarphy in the healthy ones.
Body size and physique among Canadians of First Nation and European ancestry.
Forward stepwise discriminant function analyses indicated that endomorphy was the most important discriminator between FN and EA by age and sex.
Relationship between somatotype and some risk factors for ischemic heart disease.
The study included 635 practically healthy male subjects aged 20-60 years employed in the Plovdiv Region and differentiated among them the following somatotypes: endomorphic, mesomorphic, ectomorphic, not matching any somatotype and lying outside the typological diagram.
Anthropometric and somatotype variables related to strength in American football players.
Investigation of the differences in somatotype, % fat, and strength in relation to body mass of two groups of American football players found weight was a greater factor dictating strength in either lift in the high school player than in the college player.
