The effects of MgCO3on the microstructure of AZ91D magnesium alloy has been investigated by OM,SEM,EDS,XRD and DTA testing.The results show that the grain refinement occurred in microstructure of AZ91D magnesium alloy by adding MgCO3.The average grain size of the α-Mg matrix decreases from about 95 μm to 59 μm when adding 1.0% MgCO3at 750 ℃ for 15 min,the degradation is about 38%.Based on the analysis of EDS and Gibbs free energy,the mechanism of grain refinement was generation of A14C3… CONTINUE READING
