The transformation of amoeboid microglial cells into ramified microglial cells in the brain of postnatal rats has been studied by labeling the cells with the isolectin Griffonia simplicifolia (GSA1-B4). The latter served as a specific membrane marker of the cell type. Thus, at the light-microscopic level, the amoeboid microglial cells in 1- to 5-day-old rats were intensely stained with GSA1-B4.
