Abstract The flow in a channel with an asymmetric constriction has been analyzed, using the primitive variables. The objective of this study is to develop a reduced form of the Navier-Stokes equations that is regular at the separation point. The resulting formulation is a semi-elliptic model comprised of the parabolized momentum equations together with an elliptic equation for the pressure distribution.
