The in vitro activity of the hemolysin of Fusobacterium necrophorum was determined using the hemolysis of horse erythrocytes as an assay. The effects of medium composition and pH on hemolysin production were investigated. Calf serum and casitone stimulated a comparatively higher hemolytic activity in F. necrophorum subsp. necrophorum and F. necrophorum subsp. funduliforme, respectively.
