To establish the cellular basis for the local immune response in the porcine uterus, immunohistochemical studies using a panel of monoclonal antibodies to pig leukocytes were conducted on uterine tissues from prepubertal and cycling gilts. In prepubertal uteri, neutrophils were the most predominant cell type, while MHC class II+ cells and CD2+ T lymphocytes were also common.
