The production of cellulolytic enzymes by Aspergillus niger in submerged culture with millet, guinea corn straw, rice husks and maize straw as substrates was studies. Effects of some factors, such as pH and substrate concentrations were reported. Optimal cellulase secretion by Aspergillus niger was achieved at a time (growth period) of 72 hours in maize straw and rice husk media respectively. 96 hours and 120 hours were the growth period in millet and guinea corn straws respectively.
