The polymeric state of hematoporphyrin (HP) under physiological conditions and in aqueous solution has been studied by spectrum analysis. From application of Kasha's theory on the difference spectrum between HP monomer and dimer, we have estimated that the distance between xanthene planes of HP is 0.528 nm and these planes form the cross angle 20°in dimer molecules (Fig. 3).
