Rhipidocotyle fennica n. sp. (= Rhipidocotyle Type A of Taskinen et al., 1991) from the intestine of Esox lucius in central Finland is described and compared by means of a principal components analysis (PCA) with R. campanula (= Rhipidocotyle Type B of Taskinen et al., 1991). Its cercaria develops in the bivalve Anodonta anatina and the metacercaria occurs in the skin and fins of Rutilus rutilus. The metacercaria is discriminated from that of R. campanula by PCA and is described along with… Expand

Figures and Tables from this paper

Rhipidocotyle fennica (Digenea: Bucephalidae) from Anodonta anatina and pike Esox lucius in Lithuania
TLDR
Data are shown to be identical to sequences of larval Rhipidocotyle fennica, occurring in Anodonta anatina in Lake Vilkokšnis, Lithuania, giving the first evidence that a viable population of R. fenica exists in east central Europe. Expand
STUDIES ON HYSYTEROTHYLACIUM SP. (NEMATODA: ANISAKIDAE) INFECTING KUWAITI FISHES.
TLDR
Only one snapper fish and a small proportion of the silver pomfrets were found infected with the nematode, Hysterothylacium sp. Expand
Bucephalid (Gasterostome) Cercariae Obtained from Freshwater Clams in Thailand
TLDR
This is the first study to report cercarial emergence from freshwater bivalves in this geographic region and clams can serve as the first and second intermediate hosts for trematodes. Expand
Differentiation of European freshwater bucephalids (Digenea: Bucephalidae) based on karyotypes and DNA sequences
TLDR
Very close phylogenetic affinity between investigated species was revealed; the sequence difference between the two species of Rhipidocotyle Diesing, 1858 was comparable with intergeneric differences observed in comparisons of B. polymorphus with R. fennica. Expand
Furcocercous cercariae (Trematoda) from freshwater snails in Central Finland
TLDR
This study represents the first host record of Valvata macrostoma for larval stages of Australapatemon sp. Expand
DESCRIPTION OF BUCEPHALUS ANGUILLAE N. SP. (TREMATODA: BUCEPHALIDAE), A PARASITE OF THE EEL ANGUILLA ANGUILLA (ANGUILLIDAE) FROM A BRACKISH WATER LAGOON OF THE ADRIATIC SEA
The digenetic trematode Bucephalus anguillae n. sp. is described from the intestine of eel, Anguilla anguilla L., originating from a brackish water fish farm on the Italian coast of the Adriatic Sea.Expand
The effect of temperature on cercariae production of two Rhipidocotyle trematodes parasitizing freshwater mussel, Anodonta anatina.
TLDR
Results suggest that R. campanula would be better adapted to low temperatures while R. fennica should have an advantage in high temperature habitats. Expand
The invasive Chinese pond mussel Sinanodonta woodiana (Lea, 1834) as a host for native symbionts in European waters
TLDR
The results show that S. woodiana can affect directly and indirectly water habitats and the vulnerability of infection with symbionts depends on ecosystem conditions, and it occurs that even considerable climate differences do not pose a barrier for exotic mussels to spread. Expand
Freshwater mussels (Anodonta anatina) reduce transmission of a common fish trematode (eye fluke, Diplostomum pseudospathaceum)
TLDR
It is indicated that freshwater bivalves can markedly reduce local cercariae densities and could be useful in mitigation of trematodoses harmful to fish farming. Expand
Multivariate analyses of morphometrical features from Apatemon gracilis (Rudolphi, 1819) Szidat, 1928 and A. annuligerum (v. Nordmann, 1832) (Digenea: Strigeidae) metacercariae
TLDR
It is revealed that metacercarial morphometrics cannot confidently discriminate between Apatemon gracilis and A. annuligerum specimens, and some doubt is placed on its validity as a species discrete from these species. Expand

TLDR
Two types of bucephalid cercariae are reported from the bivalve Anodonta anatina in two Finnish lakes, which are morphologically very similar and both species belong to the genus Rhipidocotyle. Expand

Allometric growth in three species of digenetic trematodes of marine fishes from Belize.
TLDR
