A doubleheaded protease inhibitor showing inhibition of bovine pancreatic trypsin and α-chymotrypsin was isolated and purified from the seeds of Phaseolus mungo. The molecular weight of the protease inhibitor was found to be 14.2 kD by SDS-PAGE analysis and gel filtration. The native inhibitor inhibited trypsin and α-chymotrypsin stoichiometrically at the molar ratio 1:1 and 2:1 respectively.
