Following growth on chitin-containing media the actinomycete, Streptomyces hygroscopicus produces N-acetylglucosaminidase. When the organism was grown in submerged culture on chitin-containing media, at 30 degrees C, production of the N-acetylglucosaminidase activity has been shown to increase to a maximum at around day 18.
