A method is outlined by which it is possible to calculate exactly the behavior of several hundred interacting classical particles. The study of this many‐body problem is carried out by an electronic computer which solves numerically the simultaneous equations of motion. The limitations of this numerical scheme are enumerated and the important steps in making the program efficient on the computers are indicated. The applicability of this method to the solution of many problems in both…

Molecular Dynamics Simulations in the Solid State Sciences

Molecular Dynamics Simulation is a computer modelling technique that has proved to be a very fruitful tool in the general study of condensed matter, but it has yet to be exploited in the field of

Computer simulation of a two-dimensional ideal gas: a simple molecular dynamics method for teaching purposes

A simple two-dimensional model of an ideal gas is described in order to study the time evolution of speed distribution in the framework of Newtonian mechanics. The results of a computer simulation of

Relaxation Processes in a Molecular Dynamic Model of Cluster from the Lennard-Jones Particles

An information about cluster properties on a molecular level is of great interest. To study microscopic processes in clusters by experiment is, however, rather difficult. One of the means of

Studies in Molecular Dynamics. II. Behavior of a Small Number of Elastic Spheres

The equation of state and the collision rate for systems ranging in size from four to 500 particles are described. The dependence of the results on the number of particles is qualitatively discussed

Stochastic theory of the classical molecular dynamics method

The work is devoted to fundamental aspects of the classical molecular dynamics method, which was developed half a century ago as a means of solving computational problems in statistical physics and
