OR MANY years a search has been under F way for a suitable substitute for the narcotic analgesic agents. Although this group of drugs has shown good analgesic properties, it suffers from the drawback that tolerance and addiction can develop after repeated use. In addition, such drugs are capable of producing respiratory depression, excessive sedation, and, on occasion, cardiovascular depression.
