Reproductive ecology of the pedunculate barnacle Scalpellum stearnsii (Cirripedia: Lepadomorpha: Scalpellidae)
- Environmental Science, BiologyJournal of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom
- 2008
The sexuality of large (non-dwarf) individuals and the characteristics of eggs, larvae and dwarf males were investigated in the pedunculate barnacle Scalpellum stearnsii and there was a positive relationship between body weight and egg mass weight in ovigerous females.
Discovery of Neonrosellavitiata (Darwin) and Newmanellaspinosus Chan & Cheang (Balanomorpha, Tetraclitidae) from the Andaman Sea, eastern Indian Ocean
- BiologyZooKeys
- 2019
This study highlights the first discovery of Neonrosella in the eastern Indian Ocean, whose ultrastructure compared to Newmanella is redescribed and illustrated here based on scanning electron microscopy.
When dwarf males and hermaphrodites copulate: first record of mating behaviour in a dwarf male using the androdioecious barnacle Scalpellum scalpellum (Crustacea: Cirripedia: Thoracica)
- BiologyOrganisms Diversity & Evolution
- 2017
Mating behaviour between a dwarf male and its hermaphrodite partner was observed for the first time in cirripedes using the androdioecious barnacle Scalpellum scalpellum and results are discussed in the context of the diverse reproductive strategies found in Cirripede barnacles.
Diverse, continuous, and plastic sexual systems in barnacles.
- BiologyIntegrative and comparative biology
- 2013
The diversity, continuity, and plasticity in the sexual systems of barnacles are sources of important insights into the evolution and maintenance of the diversity of sexual systems.
Reproductive strategy of two deep-sea scalpellid barnacles (Crustacea: Cirripedia: Thoracica) associated with decapods and pycnogonids and the first description of a penis in scalpellid dwarf males
- BiologyOrganisms Diversity & Evolution
- 2013
It is suggested that the present males are highly specialized and that the females are allocating resources to few offspring in two pedunculate barnacles of the family Scalpellidae.

- Environmental Science, BiologyJournal of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom
- 2012
A checklist of published records of coronuloid barnacles attached to marine vertebrates is presented, with 44 species (including 15 fossil species) belonging to 14 genera and 3 families recorded.
